How to Have a Luxury Colorado Elopement

Colorado has become a wildly popular place for elopements of all sizes and levels of adventure. From couples who want to hike deep into the mountains to say their vows to some who prefer a more … elevated … experience, there is something for everyone here. If your vision for your day leans more towards the luxury side, this article is for you!

Whether you’re wanting to spend your whole day soaking in somewhere bougie and beautiful or plan to go for a bigger adventure … and then come “home” to relax in total luxury, I’m here to help make it happen.

It all starts with choosing the right location!

Luxury Elopement Locations in Colorado

When I think of “Colorado” and “luxury” I think of rustic luxury. None of these places are stuffy but they all offer a chance to have a more elevated elopement experience. From beautiful resorts to lux VRBOs, you have plenty of options for where to base your elopement – and plenty of different ways to do this thing! Whether you want to have your ceremony right on site or just use your accommodations as your base while you venture farther afield for your ceremony, here are some ideas to get you started:

Dunton Hot Springs

Dunton Hot Springs is everything that is good about rustic luxury. This hot springs resort located in a picturesque valley surrounded by the San Juan Mountains. This location offers a variety of indoor and outdoor ceremony options, including a restored 19th-century chapel, a waterfall, or a meadow.

Alta Lakes Observatory

In a state full of unfashionably beautiful places, cool cabins, and stunning scenery, Alta Lakes Observatory is near the very top of the list. Located just above the town of Telluride this private, backcountry cabin (with all the creature comforts) backs to Telluride mountain and is one of the most beautiful places in Colorado. Best of all? It can be rented for your luxury Colorado elopement!

San Sophia Overlook

Another Telluride gem (can you tell how much I love Telluride?), San Sophia Overlook can be easily reached by taking the gondola from either the town of Telluride or Mountain Village. This stunning little deck looks out over town with the San Juan Mountains and Bridal Veil Falls in the background. It’s all the views with none of the hiking. After your elopement relax at any number of resort hotels in town.

The Little Nell

The Little Nell is a luxury hotel located at the base of Aspen Mountain. It offers several ceremony locations, including the rooftop terrace, with breathtaking views of the mountain, or the pool deck, with a cascading waterfall and lush landscaping.

Maroon Bells

The Maroon Bells are the most photographed mountains in Colorado and are absolutely iconic. This location, near the notoriously lux town of Aspen, is a gorgeous elopement location for couples who want to elope in nature and then retreat to all the creature comforts they could possibly want back at the lodge or hotel!

Devil’s Thumb Ranch

This gorgeous resort is located just two hours from Denver and is an ideal place for a luxury Colorado elopement. It also offers all kinds of activities from horseback riding to cross country skiing. While the resort is beautifully year round, I think it’s an especially amazing option in the winter!

Surf Hotel

If you’re into boutique hotels, this one is a gem! This boutique hotel located in Buena Vista backs to the river and has a delicious onsite restaurant. While its courtyard can be used for weddings of all sizes, I think of it more as a jumping off point to explore the nearby mountains. Enjoy a stay at the hotel and then get out in the wilds of the Sawatch Range or Great Sand Dunes National Park for your ceremony!

Gateway Canyons

Unbeknown to most people, the far western edge of Colorado is actually a lot more like Utah than it what you think of as Colorado. Think deserts and red rock canyons. This makes it the PERFECT spot for a desert-inspired elopement in Colorado (where unlike in neighboring Utah you don’t need an officiant!). Stay at the gorgeous Gateway Canyons Resort and, if you’re feeling adventurous, take a helicopter tour for a birds eye view of the places you eloped.

Hopefully this has given you some ideas on how to have a rustic luxurious Colorado elopement of your own! This just a TINY taste of all that is available for your day. Want some help figuring this out? That’ what I do! Get in touch and let’s chat!
