Alexa + Ryan’s Intimate Colorado Wedding

When Alexa and Ryan first contacted me about photographing their intimate mountain wedding in Colorado they didn’t know exactly where they wanted to go but they knew they wanted big mountains, waterfalls, lakes, and pine trees. I told them not to worry, I had just the place!

I spent several months stalking them and their pets on Instagram (no shame! they have the CUTEST dog and a crested gecko and if you know me you know that I’m pretty much obsessed with both dogs and reptiles!) and was so so so stoked when their day finally arrived!

For their intimate Colorado wedding they flew out from Chicago along with a handful of their closest family. The weather had been calling for rain that afternoon all week and we were all hoping that everyone would stay at least somewhat dry through the ceremony! We got lucky and Mother Nature delivered for this day in a BIG way!

As we drove out to the location where we were going to do their first look clouds hung over the mountains. I crossed everything I had that those clouds would stick around through the rest of the afternoon (without dumping rain on us!) and we were definitely in luck! Moody vibes are my FAVORITE and this day served them up in spades!

They did their first look next to my favorite little hidden waterfall and then we all headed up the road to meet their families for the ceremony. I think there’s something super special about the people who will literally brave bumpy dirt roads and rain to be there for your biggest day and their sweet families did all that and more!

As their people gathered around in a circle these guys said their vows, did a beer blending unity ceremony, and made it official!

After the ceremony we ventured up above treeline for photos … and were quickly chased back down when that storm finally blew in! We spent the rest of the evening exploring down a little lower and taking pictures in the rain – which they absolutely ROCKED! There is a saying that “bad weather makes for great photos” and it couldn’t have been more true than it was on this day! I truly believe that how you handle challenges on the day you get married is a pretty good indicator of how you’ll handle challenges later on in life and with the way Alexa and Ryan handled the rain? I’m not worried about them ONE bit!

These elopement style intimate weddings are some of my absolute favorites and an amazing way to have the best of both worlds – you get the amazing nature experience you want while also getting to celebrate with the people you love most. It was an absolute honor to be there with these guys as they made it official!

Congrats, Alexa and Ryan! Thank your for asking me to be a part of your intimate mountain wedding in Colorado!
