Courtney + MacKenzie’s Moody fall elopement

Mother nature brought the vibes for this elopement in the colorado mountains
There are days that photographers like me who LOVE moody vibes dream of and this elopement? It was definitely up there on the list!
Courtney and Mackenzie and their pup Juniper came to Colorado from Texas for a late fall elopement. We knew they would probably miss peak fall colors but what we DIDN’T know was that they would be graced by the first real hint of winter in the high country.
To say Mother Nature brought the vibes to this day would be a dramatic understatement.
We met up at their AirBNB where they were getting their hair and makeup done. At that point the sun was shining and we thought it was going to be one of those warm, sunny fall days that Colorado is known for.
As we headed out to the place where we would do their first look, I noticed the clouds building and what looked like snow falling up high. Things changed QUICKLY from there!!
We did their first look in a beautiful mountain meadow and then set off to the spot up the road (and way up high) where we were going to explore, take some photos, and maybe do their ceremony. But halfway up the road we ran into a barricade that said they had closed the pass ahead of a coming winter storm – so it was on to plan B. No worries!
We spent the afternoon exploring the area and watching the clouds build. Finally, as the wind started to pick up, we decided it was definitely time to do their ceremony and we headed to the spot. Ten minutes later the sky opened and it started raining.
Was it cold as hell? Yes. Did it make it hard to keep my lens fog-free? Yes. Were these two troopers? Yes. WAS IT EPIC??? Oh hell yes!!!
After their ceremony we headed back to their AirBnB, got all dried off and warm, and they enjoyed a dinner from a private chef. It was the perfect, cozy end to an incredible day!
Here are some photos from their elopement! Enjoy!
