Emily + Spencer’s Intimate Boulder Wedding

Emily and Spencer live in the midwest but knew they wanted to get married in one of their favorite places – Chautauqua Park at the base of the famous Flatirons in Boulder. They told me they never saw themselves having a big traditional wedding and that they were looking for a Boulder wedding photographer who would “get” the vibe they were going for. As soon as I got on the phone with them I knew it was a perfect match!

I actually had the chance to hang out with these two in the flesh earlier this summer. They came out to Colorado for vacation and asked if we could grab drinks or coffee or something while they were here. Unfortunately I was traveling a TON at the time and only had one day where I would be home at the same time they were here – and my husband and I had tickets to see the Avett Brothers at Red Rocks that night. Then I remembered we had two extra tickets so we invited them along! We waited in a hail storm to get into Red Rocks and then waited out an hour delay due to lightening but STILL had the best time!

Needless to say, I was stoked for their wedding!

They rented a cabin for the week at Chautauqua and got ready separately there. Then we headed up into the hills above Boulder for their first look! Spencer surprised Emily with a letter she had written to her (but never delivered!) when they started dating several years earlier and it was just about the sweetest moment ever.

From there it was back down the mountain to get them all married up! They said their vows on the lawn at Chautauqua surrounded by their family and friends. The ceremony was followed by dinner at the dining hall (and a peach and berry cobbler that I’m pretty sure had crack in it – it was SO GOOD) and then we snuck out in the rain for some “sunset” portraits – and laughed about how sometime we really need to hang out when its NOT raining!

The evening ended with a house party and the Sweet Cow truck at Em’s brother’s house in Boulder … which they were kind enough to invite my husband (who they hung out with at the concert) and son (who is Sweet Cow’s biggest fan) to!

Emily and Spencer did such an amazing job of having a wedding that was SO totally them and that focused on what really matters. This was a day that was FULL of joy (are they ever NOT smiling in these pictures?!) and their happiness was absolutely contagious!

Here are some shots from their day. Enjoy!
