When Catherine and James first contacted me about photographing their Twin Lakes Colorado wedding at the stunning Wolf Den I was SO freaking excited! I have spent a TON of time in this area – hiking the nearby 14ers, cheering runners on at the Leadville 100 run, and crewing for my husband when he did the Leadville 100 mountain bike race last year. This is a place that is VERY near and dear to my heart and I was SO freaking stoked to get to photograph a couple there!
I met Catherine and James in person the first time the evening before their wedding when we did an adventure session in the mountains. We hit it off immediately and I could tell right away that their wedding was going to be one I would never forget!
I had never been to the Wolf Den before and it quickly became one of my favorite venues in Colorado for an intimate mountain wedding. The view from the patio (the ceremony location!) is incredible and only got better as the sun set behind the mountains. I honestly can’t think of a more beautiful spot for a wedding and I hope to get to go back and shoot there a bunch (hint hint!).
Catherine and James were already dressed and ready when I arrived so we did their first look pretty much right away and then headed into Twin Lakes itself for wedding party photos and some couples portraits. After the group photos were over we headed to the Twin Lakes Inn for a quick shot (thanks for letting us take over the bar for a few minutes!), and then sent the bridal party on their way so we could do some photos of just Catherine and James in the shadow of those giant mountains.
From there we headed back to the lodge for the ceremony which had everyone (myself included) both laughing and crying the whole way through!
Following the ceremony Catherine changed into a stunning red dress for a traditional Chinese tea ceremony in which they served tea to his family. I’ve been lucky enough to photograph a few other tea ceremonies and its always SO much fun seeing these traditions play out in real life!
With the serious parts of the day over it was then time to celebrate! Dinner was served buffet-style by the Treeline in Leadville (they killed it! I’ve eaten a LOT of wedding food and this was some of the best I’ve had) and then everyone danced the night away as the sun sank below the mountains.
I had a freaking amazing time with these guys and am so stoked to share some photos from their day!
