Catherine and James came out to the mountains to get married at the beautiful Wolf Den in Twin Lakes, Colorado (stay tuned for the blog post from their wedding!). The evening before the wedding we met up for a super fun adventure session to explore the area, get to know each other, and (of course!) take some pictures! For their Aspen adventure session we headed to a few places that were new to me (and had been dying to shoot!) and we had an absolute blast!
Weddings and the days leading up to them can be SO freaking crazy sometimes and sneaking away to reconnect and spend some time in a beautiful place before the big day is a really good way to remember why you’re there. The photos are the icing on the cake!
We had originally planned to hike one of the peaks at the top of the pass but Colorado’s crazy snow year had other ideas. Did you guys know that we’re at 500% snowpack in a lot of places in the mountains this year? Its definitely made my life a little more challenging as I’ve scrambled to come up with other plans for some of my couples but its worked out every single time! Most of the super high altitude trails are still blanketed in snow (in July, guys!!) so we had to come up with another plan for this session – and lets just say that I’m definitely NOT mad about how it turned out!
These guys were definitely up for an adventure and their session had us crawling down into a cool little cave that was filled with five a five foot thick block of ice (note to self: bring spikes next time!), hanging out next to a raging river (where they very nearly got whacked by a log that came flying down the waterfall and OUT OF THE WATER!!), and then catching sunset and a beautiful rainbow from 12,000+ feet.
It was SO wonderful to get to know these guys better before their wedding and spend a beautiful evening exploring new places in the mountains!
I had so much fun exploring the mountains with these guys for their Aspen adventure session and I can’t freaking WAIT to share photos from their wedding the next day!
