Charlene and Stephen have one of the craziest love stories that I’ve ever heard. They met in the U.S. when they were both dating other people and then both separately moved to Korea for work. They never hung out while they were there (she turned him down when he suggested it!) but then crossed paths AGAIN a couple years later when they had both moved to New York City. He spotted her in the park, sent her a weird Facebook message, and the rest is history! They got married at Yaya Farm and Orchard and I was beyond stoked to be their Boulder wedding photographer!
Char and Shuba got ready at the super hip Maven Hotel in downtown Denver and then headed to the mountains above Boulder for their first look. After that it was off to Yaya Farm for their ceremony, traditional Korean tea ceremony (which was awesome!) and reception!
From their giant smiles to their bigger hearts, I couldn’t love these two more. I had the best time hanging out with them and their sweet families and am so excited to share some photos from their day!
Getting ready at The Maven hotel
Char and Shuba got ready with their friends (and Char’s two adorable flower girls!) at the Maven hotel in downtown Denver. I was only with these guys for the very end of their getting ready but it was super fun exploring this trendy hotel. I could take photos there all day!
First Look on Flagstaff Mountain
Charlene and Shuba wanted mountain vibes for their first look so I suggested we head to the mountains above Boulder, which was halfway between Denver and Yaya Farm. It was a cool, foggy, rainy morning and the clouds hanging over the foothills made for a killer view. Stephen’s reaction when he saw Charlene was priceless and had me wiping back the tears too!
Following the first look we took some portraits up in the fog with them and their wedding party. I was a little bit obsessed with those clouds and could have hung out up there all day but eventually we had to leave because these two had to get married! 🙂
I shoot sooooooooo many mountain weddings (which I love!) – getting to shoot on a farm was such a nice change of pace! Yaya is one of the coolest venues I’ve photographed at on the Front Range. I mean, any wedding venue that has chickens and donkeys is awesome in my book! The farm fit the laid-back vibe these two were going for and couldn’t have been a more perfect fit!
Following their “regular” ceremony they changed into hanboks for a traditional Korean tea ceremony. Charlene had told me that these are usually super elegant and that theirs would … not be elegant. She was kind of right! LOL! Her dad led them through the ceremony and we all got a good laugh every time she went to bow and was thrown off balance by the hanbok.
Near the end of the ceremony, Stephen’s family had to throw nuts for Charlene and Stephen to catch – the number that they caught would be the number of children they would have. It looks like they’re having 23 kids. Good luck with that, guys! 😉
Dinner was in the barn and catered by one of my absolute FAVORITE restaurants in Boulder, Blackbelly. After dinner it was time to party and we spent the rest of the night on the dance floor!
I could not have a had a better time with these guys. It was SUCH an honor to be a part of their day!
