Becky + Colleen’s Intimate Wedding in Colorado

A stunning fall microwedding in the mountains with a sunrise hike

When Becky and Colleen reached out to me last year they didn’t really know what they wanted to do for their wedding other than that they wanted to get married in a beautiful place with the people they love. They had never been to Colorado before so we talked through a bunch of options and eventually settled on the area around Buena Vista. We decided to spend part of their day a solo elopement-style adventure before meeting up with their friends and family for their ceremony and reception. Everything about this intimate wedding in Colorado was just PERFECT

We planned their day around sunrise (which is gloriously late in October!). When I drove in the night before there was a light snow falling on the mountains – I knew it was going to make for an INCREDIBLE morning!

I met up with Becky at one of the cabins they had rented as she finished getting ready and then we stuffed her in the back of my van (like she was being kidnapped! ha!!!) and went to pick up Colleen who was getting ready at a cabin nearby. My van has a curtain between the front and back seats so we were able to keep them apart until we got to the spot where we were going to do their first look. Their two best friends came along with us so we had a little crew – it was s much fun!

When we got to the first look location the sun was just starting to come up and the clouds were hanging low on the mountain – those cloud inversions are some of my absolute favorite things so I was STOKED! They had the sweetest first look and soaked in that sunrise – and then we decided to head up high for some photos way up above treeline.

We had no idea the treat we were in for!!

This pass typically closes for the year when the snow starts to fall so being up there with freshly fallen snow is pretty rare. We got lucky, though, because the road was totally dry but there was a dusting of snow all around. It was MAGICAL. At what point I heard Becky say something to the effect of that she was just so happy to be experiencing this and I TOTALLY agreed. It. was. epic.

They said some private vows on top of the mountain and then we headed back down the trail and the pass and stopped for coffee and a few more photos on the way back to the cabin. When we arrived their friends and family were gathering for the ceremony which happened next to the river at their amazing VRBO. All of it was so freaking perfect.

Here are some photos from their day – enjoy!
