When Savannah first contacted me about shooting her and Dylan’s Estes Park wedding and mentioned that they found me by Googling “Estes Park wedding with a dog” (and found this) I knew we were a match made in heaven. Dog people are my people!
For their engagement session we headed up to Rocky Mountain National Park. I always expect heavy snow up there but this winter just isn’t cooperating on the snow front. But even though there wasn’t much snow on the ground the clouds rolled in and some flurries were falling – giving us the perfect cozy mountain vibe without all the difficulty that sometimes comes with shooting in the mountains in the winter. Score!
We weren’t exactly sure where we were going to go once we got to the park so I headed up early to do a little scouting (and also because I’ll take any excuse to spend time in the park!). While driving around I spotted two moose and several herds of elk. Elk are everywhere in the park but anytime I get to see a moose its a special treat! I decided the moose sightings were a good omen for the rest of the day and man, I was right! It had been warm and sunny all weekend down on the Front Range where I live but the weather in the mountains was super moody – just how I like it! Combine that weather and those views with the awesome people I got to hang out with and made for a perfect evening in the mountains.
We spent a few hours exploring a half-frozen waterfall, climbing over logs, slipping on rocks, and having an all around amazing time. Sav and Dylan live in Colorado now but are transplants from the south and braved the cold, moody weather like champs! I’m pretty sure we were all frozen by the time we got back to the car but I am 100% certain it was worth it.
These guys are having an Estes Park wedding this fall and I can’t freaking wait!
Here are some shots from the day. Enjoy!
